PTI Airport Terminal Renovation Underway
HICAPS is honored to have been named the general contractor for the Piedmont Triad International (PTI) Airport Terminal
and Office Renovation project in Greensboro, NC. The design-bid-build contract was awarded last September and HICAPS began work on October 10, 2014. The main terminal building project is being completed in three phases and involves working during off-hours to minimize disruption to the passengers moving through the airport.
The first sequence of work in each of the phases was the erection of an extensive scaffolding system which was used as a work platform while normal passenger travel lanes were maintained below. HICAPS used Brewer Equipment Company to design, erect and dismantle the scaffolding.
The second sequence of work in all three phases was the removal of the existing metal and acoustical ceiling systems. Work in phases one and two also included scraping the existing fireproofing from the exposed structural steel roof framing components. The existing electrical and mechanical systems in each of the phases were removed and upgraded, including the addition of a new fire sprinkler system.
The final sequence of work in each phase involved installing finishes, which included a new metal panel ceiling system in phases one and two, 4’x4’ acoustical ceiling and millwork “clouds” in phase three, an LED lighting system, painting the exposed ceiling structure, dark cherry paneling at the entrance vestibules, and maple panel wraps at each column.
