Peck Expeditionary Magnet School
HICAPS, Inc., alongside C2 Contractors, was hired by Guilford County Schools to oversee the planning and execution of $300 million in bond projects starting in 2020. Our responsibilities include managing the planning, design, construction, contractors, and other vendors to ensure that projects are completed within scope, budget, on schedule, and in compliance with school construction codes and to a level of quality that exceeds industry standards. There are currently ten schools at various stages of completion, ranging from planning to successful completion.
Peck Expeditionary Magnet School will be located on the same campus as the existing Peck Elementary School. Peck Expeditionary Learning School, located in Greensboro, North Carolina, is a new school that will serve 900 students in grades beginning in Pre-school through 8th Grade. The new building will replace an existing elementary school on the same site. Students at Peck will experience Expeditionary Learning, a new educational delivery model that emphasizes indoor/outdoor learning, community, mentorship, and real-world problem solving. A major part of Expeditionary Learning (EL) philosophy is ‘Learning by Doing’ and it places a strong focus on student personal responsibility. Student accomplishment in an EL environment combines academic achievement, character and high-quality product. Moreover, strong character qualities of collaboration, perseverance, responsibility and compassion are foundational to student success and that character is shaped through attractive and stimulating academic work. Teachers and School Leaders in the EL model serve as creative promoters in the classroom and guide students in a student-centered pedagogy. The new Peck building will be 139,584 square feet spanned across two buildings.
